Seal

seal_killing

There’s a baby seal
lodged
in my memory
from watching
a nature documentary.

It got ripped apart
slowly
by
something above it
in the food chain.

It’s only now,
waiting
for two hours
for you to indicate
your continuing existence
in some way
(I accept:
carrier pigeons,
smoke signals,
word of mouth,
emotions sent in the aether,
lovers notes
(preferably from you)
good vibrations,
bad vibrations,
emails
and phone calls)

that I finally
know how it fucking felt.
